Job Description

  • Process development Engineer for the Discovery and Applications R&D team. Technical leader for extrusion technologies for Quaker and other business, driving technical support and new product innovation for global extrusion initiatives.
  • Technology lead for Quaker extrusion platform: RTE cereals, snacks, pellets.
  • Technology lead for innovative applications of extrusion technology across PepsiCo Nutrition portfolio.
  • Lead technical assignments in the areas of new product development, process development, product/process improvement.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, validation and commercialization of new process technologies.
  • Utilize scientific methods to develop knowledge that creates business opportunities that support the company strategic market objectives.
  • Design and execute experiments, and analyze and interpret data to make sound technical recommendations on product and process issues.
  • Leverage external and internal experts for key analytical and sensory research.
  • Participate as an active member of cross-functional business development teams comprised of individuals from a variety of disciplines, including Marketing, Purchasing, Engineering and other groups.


  • BS Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Equivalent with 6-8 years of experience + extrusion experience; MS with 4-6 years of Ph.D with 2-4 years (Ph.D preferred)
  • Strong expertise in Extrusion – preferably food focused
  • Experience in a wide range of food product and process development and commercialization preferred.
  • Understanding of product formulation and development, ingredient technology, food processing, food safety, process control and quality management.
  • Self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to work with various personalities and work styles, and good influence management skills.
  • Strong personal leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams. (Technical Services, Business units, Quality Assurance, plant personnel, Supply Chain and suppliers).
  • Ability to partner with a wide variety of external resources including contract manufacturers, equipment vendors and ingredient suppliers.
  • Positive learner--highly creative individual with desire to gain and apply knowledge to new processes and products.
  • Ability to recognize/understand the cause and effect of product/ingredient/process changes and identify effective solutions.
  • Expertise in translating business objectives into strategic and tactical project goals and objectives.
  • Proven ability to make significant technical scientific advances utilizing internal and/or external resources.
  • Leadership of accelerated product development life cycles that include new idea generation, prototype development, production start-up for test market and national launching of new products.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in multiple food processing platforms
  • Strong proficiency and desire to lead deep technical research programs for food processing
  • Proven leadership in identification of new technologies and engineering solutions for highly complex, challenging technical initiatives
  • Travel required (US and International)—estimate 35%
