Job Description

The ESSA Category NRM Strategy Senior Manager roles (Beverage & Snacks) will take responsibility for developing and embedding our new Category Revenue Management capability. This is a rapidly building agenda and of critical importance to our long term Net Revenue Realisation strategy in ESSA. The roles will form a core part of the NRM Strategy CoE team, and partner with the existing BU Revenue management teams to drive strategy into execution. To ensure high impact in category organisations, each role will also have dotted reporting lines into both regional category GM’s. Key accountabilities are as follows:

-Deliver annual portfolio NRM strategy for category (incl. separate East, West regional strategy) (Execute)
-Partner with Category GM and Platform/Brand leads to embed in category PSP process (Consultation)
-Understand NRM performance landscape at ESSA / category level including:
-PEP performance & NRR algorithm vs. key competitors (Execute)
-Local BU NRM performance context & strategic priorities (Be informed)
-Portfolio Price Tier landscape (value, mainsteam, premium) (Execute)
-Key NRM financial metrics performance and drivers at ESSA/Category level (partner with FP&A) (Be informed)
-Mix diagnostics (Be informed)
-Coverage of Pack/price vs. competition and demand space (at a high level) (Be informed)
-Deliver 4 x Quarterly Pricing Council reviews for Category GM & BU Category/Marketing leads (including grooving of the agenda, forum & schedule – new process) (Execute)
-Lead NRM strategy definition for Category Innovation pipeline and sit on Category IB to validate/govern progress
-Partner with BU NRM to cascade Category NRM strategy from PSP into BU AOP, and create process to facilitate 2-way dialogue between category & BU during AOP development (Execute process design, Provide Consultation during)
-Partner withother category specific NRM leads (organization includes L11 & L8 role for Snx/other) to coordinate the category NRM agenda consistently across categories (Consultation)


  • Applicant must be immediately credible in strategy & have experience building executable commercial/financial strategy in a CPG environment: 6-8 years strong top-tier consulting or commercial strategy background in FMCG OR 8-10 years commercial analytics experience of which at least 3 years in a senior strategy role.
  • Very strong analytical skills – excellent competency in MS Excel is a must, as is experience of managing complex, incomplete & inconsistent datasets and defining strategic analytics (market sizing/growth forecasts etc).
  • Deep grounding in analytical logic and ability to translate complex data into powerful insight
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to problem solve / search out facts / engage internal & external contacts to source data without prior detailed process/guidance
  • Proven experience using PowerPoint and ability to producing visually compelling presentations (i.e. beyond just operating the software) that are impactful with a senior audience
  • Clarity in communication (English language) to enable production of a very high standard of commentary that is impactful and credible amongst our most senior audiences.
  • Balance of data experience across Financial / P&L and broader consumer/shopper/commercial insights in a CPG environment (note no specific financial qualifications required)
