Job Description

Job Purpose Statement

  • The Commercial Business Analyst works in partnership with the Sales department to understand the full functionality and provide analysis, insights & recommendations to drive performance and accountable for achieving the AOP targets.
  • Is a key contributor to development of customer and promotional strategy within the Foodstuffs North Island customer group.
  • Establishes practices and procedures to achieve optimal pricing structure and improved processes.
  • Supports and develops reporting to facilitate insight to allow the business to make the right decisions.
  • Provides analysis and partners with Sales to explore business development and drive growth.
Key Accountabilities

Sales Performance Management and Analysis
  • Be the go to person to work with the Foodstuffs North Island sales team, developing a one team culture and supporting all analysis, reporting and processes. This includes analysis and insights into profitability performance across customers and pack groups such as ROI on promotional plans, customer trading terms and new business proposals.
  • Drive a culture of owning the numbers and driving for results through analysis and delivery of insights into account performance through monthly trade spend reviews and the commercial planning review meeting.
  • Review and analyse pricing management within the business by frequently monitoring promotional and non-promotional prices vs. key competitors.
  • Provide regular reporting and analysis of key KPIs including Gross and Net Sales volume, price, mix, cost of goods and variable contribution.
  • Ensure that accruals are effectively controlled and managed.
  • Drive the continued development, implementation and maintenance analytical tools for the commercial team.

Financial Planning, Forecasting and Reporting
  • Lead improvements in forecast accuracy via analysis and recommendations as part of the monthly forecasting cycle.
  • Support the preparation of the annual operating plan (AOP) for the Bluebird business to Variable Contribution level.
  • Drive the continued development, implementation and maintenance analytical tools for the commercial team.
  • Own Foodstuffs North Island month end process, including accurate accrual management, understanding variance to forecast and working with the sales team to provide insightful commentary.
  • Support the Senior Finance Manager and wider Finance team with ad hoc projects/analysis to further drive the commercial and control agenda for the NZ business.

People Development
  • Managing, coaching, support and development of Level 5 Sales Analyst.
  • Support the development of a culture of one team between commercial finance and sales.
  • Develop the financial acumen of Sales function through coaching to improve their awareness of and participation in key financial processes.
  • Lead the process to train, educate and support key account manager in the understanding of the total business algorithm and how they impact it.

Qualifications/Requirements

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Advanced Excel and computer knowledge, experience and skills.
  • Advanced accounting knowledge together with a relevant degree. Post Graduate qualification favourably considered.
  • Proven budgeting and forecasting experience.
  • Industry knowledge in FMCG and/or Wholesale would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills, including excellent financial modelling and excel skills.
  • Proven commercial acumen.
  • Solid understanding of core business fundamentals and the ability to articulate financial insights to nonfinancial staff.
  • Past experience in analysis of promotional effectiveness and ROI
  • Excellent influencing and communication skills. Ability to articulate well thought out analysis in a holistic manner supported by relevant analytics, fact and data.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Accurate reporting and self-review abilities.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to self-prioritise workload.
  • Lateral thinker with strong use of initiative and resourcefulness
