Job Description

The R&D Strategy and Portfolio Management team is uniquely positioned to define and drive R&D’s contribution to PepsiCo’s long-term profitable and sustainable growth agenda. An integral member of the R&D Strategy function, this position will advocate for the R&D position in formulating and translating strategy to drive decisions to optimize the total R&D portfolio. This person will help shape the Global Beverages R&D Strategy to deliver near-term commercial requirements balanced with building longer-term technical advantage and corporate priorities. As the Strategy Senior Manager, this person will interface with the Beverages Category Strategy team, the Corporate Strategy office, and the Beverages Category R&D team. The responsibilities associated with this role are outlined below.

  • The Senior Manager will help shape the Beverages R&D Strategy by providing recommendations supported with fact based insights into:

    • the requested innovation, productivity, and compliance allocation of resources as well as ensure the portfolio is balanced for short and long-term goals

    • “where to play” and “how to win” analyses and recommendations

    • The translation of strategic intent into actionable work plans and deliverables including return, risk, technology and capability investment and timing

    • Aligning resources and R&D plans with the agreed strategy

  • Drafts briefs that direct numerious teams across Global Beverages R&D to focus their efforts on creating technology, product designs and actual commercial launches consistent with the R&D and category strategy

  • Creatively identify opportunities for technology to enable not only products, but also development of new channels and business models

  • Strategy Senior Manager interfaces with the Platform Leaders and their teams to drive effectiveness & efficiency of R&D in delivering the Beverages Category innovation agenda

  • Positively influence at all levels within and outside the organization as a strategic thought leader

  • Originate insightful fact based analyses that contribute to portfolio reviews and actionable recommendations to R&D leadership on projects

  • Identify systemic organizational and managerial challenges to implementing strategy and portfolio priorities and contribute to leading change that removes these barriers

  • Contribute to the assessment of R&D capabilities required to enable the growth agenda and portfolio of the future, updated annually as part of R&D SCP

  • Provide analytical support for data-driven recommendations (both an internal and “outside in” perspective) to R&D leadership

  • Support in developing the IP Strategy (Patent portfolio & leverage) for Beverages category

  • Develop effective working relationships to gain matrix resources to support group's initiatives


Education Requirements:

  • Masters or Ph.D. Required
    MBA Preferred


  • Candidate will be experienced in the consumer goods industry, management consulting, or strategy function
    Data analytics
    Business acumen
    Strong verbal and written communication skills
    Strong understanding of linking research to business opportunity (business case development)
    Ability to lead multi- faceted teams
    Highly effective organization, negotiation, coordination, and presentation skills
    Ability to manage multiple priorities & comfort in matrix organization
    Must be willing and able to travel up to 10-30% of the time
