Job Description:

We are currently recruiting a Regulatory Specialist – Chemical Safety to join our R&D team in Little Island on a on a contract role for an estimated duration of 12 months.

This role will support PepsiCo’s global Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and GHS label team, coordinate the Chemical Safety horizon scanning programme and provide support on labelling dangerous goods for transport by road, sea and air.

We are the concentrate team in PepsiCo (PGCS) working across the Beverage, Nutrition and Snacks categories to deliver concentrate for many of PepsiCo’s mega brands including Gatorade, 7Up and Pepsi. We are at the heart of PepsiCo products, sourcing ingredients to manufacture more than 1,200 recipes for our brands. Primary Accountabilities:
  • Support PepsiCo’s obligations under chemical hazard communication regulations based on UN Global Harmonised System (GHS) on labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) globally
  • Ensure that regulatory obligations are communicated to plants/distribution centres in a timely and effective manner
  • Support execution of global strategies/policies/plans to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate with the network of GHS/Hazardous Material Co-ordinators at facilities globally
  • Deal swiftly with regulatory queries related to chemical hazard communication from global manufacturing and distribution locations
  • Derive hazard classifications for substances and mixtures as per UN GHS “Purple Book”
  • Conduct literature and toxicological database search to assist with classification of chemical substances and mixtures
  • Use of commercial SDS authoring platforms (e.g. 3E Generate/MSDgen/The Wercs/Lisam)
  • Support PepsiCo process for authoring SDSs
  • Review SDSs received from vendors to ensure compliance with regulations across the globe
  • Actively lead the regulatory horizon scanning programme, conduct regulatory impact assessments and ensure the business is well placed to deal with regulatory change
  • Provide information and direction to senior management on potential regulatory impacts to the business
  • Assess regulatory parameters for new innovations in a timely manner using internal systems

Qualifications/Requirements

Essential Skills:

  • Third level qualification in Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, Legal/Law, Health & Safety, Environmental Science or related discipline.
  • Experience working in an industrial setting relating to regulatory affairs or chemical hazard communication
  • Knowledge of regulations pertaining to GHS and transportation of hazardous materials

Desired Skills:
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Degree/Masters in Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, Legal/Law, Health & Safety, Environmental Science or related discipline.
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in an industrial setting relating to regulatory affairs, specifically chemical hazard communication
  • Experience using SDS authoring software
  • In-depth understanding of chemistry and a working knowledge of toxicology, ecotoxicology and risk assessment
