Job Description

The ESSA HQBU Planning Analyst has direct ownership of the full Planning/Forecasting, reporting cycles and the financial results of HQ BU reported in our key planning systems of Cognos TM1, HFM & IPT. The role is responsible for ensuring Planning /Forecasting of the ESSA Headquarters Business Unit (~$600mm) is delivered and reported throughout the systems consistently.
In addition, the role also holds full responsibility over delivery of all Sector FP&A reporting as part of the wider ESSA BU submission requirements, working with Sector FP&A to fulfil Corporate NY requirements.

This role is part of the larger ESSA planning & function finance team and will report to the FP&A Planning Manager This position interacts with a diverse customer audience, including Finance Functional Managers (FFMs), Sector Central Function owners, ESSA Sector FP&A, Control, and Shared Services teams. It will require the incumbent to strive to provide continuous added value to the existing customer base as well as becoming an integral part of Central Functions through business partnering, ownership and stewardship of the financial data.

Principal Responsibilities

Forecasting and Planning COE
  1. Lead/Coordinate the consolidation of the AOP and quarterly forecasts for all Central Functions, working with FFM/Function owners to understand their bottom up Forecast/AOP budgets and aligning the overall roll up of HQ BU with HQ Finance Manager and Director.
  2. Enable Cognos TM1, Oracle & HFM to reflect all submissions accurately and deliver robust sense checking of numbers prior to closure of systems.
  3. Ensure timely and accurate submissions of monthly actuals in TM1.
  4. Deliver and submit all required ESSA Sector FP&A analytical templates including NOPBT COC, Opex inflation, Labour, productivity & investments
  5. Own the overall TM1 HQ BU financial reporting results through structured joint-effort and business partnering with all Central Functions and key HQ/Sector stakeholders maintaining robust systemised reporting.
  6. Support Finance leads of all Sector HQ Functions/JV’s and Corporate with data loads and consolidation in Cognos TM1 and the resulting data/templates.
  7. Assume a ‘Finance Business Partner’ role over the budgets of all central Functions. Work closely with individual FFM/Function owners to help develop, analyse and own their financials to ensure forecast accuracy while enabling Functions to meet their business objectives.
  8. Provide required data and analysis for ESSA SVP Planning, Sector CFO and Sector FP&A reviews.

Key Deliverables

  2. Planning/forecasting processes including the PSP, AOP, P4F/P9F, Monthly forecasts, for all Central Functions ensuring alignment with FFM’s and HQ Planning Manager & Director.
  3. Manage the month/quarter/year end reporting processes for HQ BU Central Functions: ensure clear and accurate communication of results to all stakeholders including Sector FP&A
  4. Rolling forecast with a focus on forecast accuracy and no surprises
  5. Support Cognos TM1 data loading and reports generation striving for simplification and harmonization of process with control


  • Minimum 4 years prior experience with Planning/Forecasting and/or strong analytical skills – demonstrated ability to interpret business performance, identify anomalies and trends
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong ability to work in Excel
  • Knowledge of accounting processes (purchase orders, accruals) and experience working in the Control environment
  • Knowledge of database management principles
  • High maturity level to deal with very confidential information
  • Leadership/ability to manage a very diverse audience (of senior individuals)
  • Strong Communication skills – ability to communicate clearly and effectively with customers and cross functionally, verbally and in writing
  • Strong written and verbal English
Ability to operate autonomously and proactively, managing multiple deliverables at a single time in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment and with a remote team
