PepsiCo Beverage packaging R&D is seeking a Polymer Scientist to support our sustainable beverage packaging agenda. The position will focus on sustainable packaging research and development in areas such as new materials, design for recycling, light-weighting and barrier technology and new technology scouting.

  • Provides subject matter expertise in sustainable packaging materials including plastics (particularly PET) renewable/bio-based plastics, plastics recycling, recycled content use in beverage packaging and design for recycling principles
  • Provides subject matter expertise in plastic materials including synthesis and structure property relationships, particularly PET
  • Participates in external research consortia and trade associations
  • Provides technical know-how/expertise in life cycle assessment of materials and packaging
  • Provides technical expertise in sustainable package development
  • Provides technical expertise in shelf life extension technologies
  • Provides technical expertise in injection stretch blow molding technology
  • Surveys both industry and academia for the scouting of new technologies
  • Conducts patent and technical literature reviews
  • Independently plans and executes research and new technology development
  • Designs, manages and executes technically sound and thorough experiments
  • Participates in the creation of a business case
  • Partners with peers in Research, Strategic Supply and Legal
  • Drives new technology development programs, including the management of assigned budgets, timelines and internal / external support resources
  • Partners with development teams to support commercialization
  • Creates New Invention Disclosures and Patent Applications


  • Education & Experience:
    • Ph. D. in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Environmental Science or Materials Science
    • Minimum of three years of experience in packaging/materials R&D, preferably in Food and Beverage industry
    • Proven track record of successful innovative packaging solutions
    • Experience with a broad range of packaging technologies including key manufacturing process for beverage packaging
  • Critical Competencies:
    • Broad knowledge of packaging materials, particularly PET
    • Collaborative and proactive
    • Intellectual curiosity with a focus on new technology
