Role Summary:

Pepsi Lipton North America (PLNA) is part of a global joint venture (JV) between PepsiCo and Unilever to develop, market, and distribute ready-to-drink iced tea products. The PLNA North American brand portfolio represents approximately 33% of the Ready to Drink (RTD) tea category. The PLNA JV is a fully cross-functional team that reports to a General Manager operates like a ‘company within a company’ and provides exposure to the global business and Unilever processes and tools.

The flagship Lipton Iced Tea brand represents approximate $150MM in annual net revenue and has an ambitious innovation agenda to help drive continued growth and consumer relevance in an increasingly competitive Iced Tea category landscape.

The Lipton US Upstream Innovation Manager will be responsible for the management of the Innovation Agenda. Working with S&I to collect Consumer & Market Insights and scope-out all innovation projects. Defining with R&D product offerings. Advancing innovations through the North America Stage-Gate process. Additionally, the role requires a high degree of partnership with Operations, Regulatory/Legal, Finance and Sales.

Throughout the innovation process, the expectation will be for the Upstream Innovation Sr. Manager to work hand in hand with the Commercial Marketing leads to co-develop the Customer sell-in materials.

Finally, the Lipton Innovation manager will be aligning and collaborating with their DIY counterparts (Unilever) to coordinate a Unified Lipton Innovation Agenda.

Job Responsibilities (2019-beyond)

  • Lead the development of Lipton Herbals (2021) & Zero Sugar (2021) Big Bets, including advancing the initiatives through the stage-gate process, driving cross-functional alignment, sell-in, consumer opportunity articulations, operations/manufacturing plan, Global Alignment etc…
  • Lead for RTD the development of a joint innovation strategy with Lipton DIY (Project One)
  • Lead the refinement of the Long-Range Innovation Funnel (2021-2023), assessing Consumer & Marketplace opportunities, reflective of Lipton’s positioning and “Project One” joint-Innovation Strategy
  • Support development of communication strategy that will support the launch of Herbals & Zero-Sugar platforms (2021)

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred
  • Minimum Qualification: A minimum of 6 years prior Marketing or Strategy experience (if undergrad degree only) OR 3 year of prior Marketing or Strategy experience (if Advanced Degree)
  • Candidates must be self-starters and cross-functional team players who demonstrate significant ownership of deliverables and can work effectively with a variety of different functional stakeholders
Desired:
  • Proven experience in Innovation and/or Commercial roles (strong working knowledge of innovation stage gate process a plus)
  • Track record of successful execution of innovation and/or marketing programs
  • Critical thinking and business acumen balanced with detailed time and project management.
  • Excellent presentation, “sell-in” and communication skills
  • Able to demonstrate a sharp understanding of consumer insights and use analytical thinking to turn insight into ideas and growth opportunities
  • Adept at working in a multi-location environment
  • A confident leader who has strategic influencing skills to drive teamwork and alignment with cross-functional stakeholders
Percent Travel: 10% + Unilever New Jersey Offices in Englewood Cliffs (Metro NYC), 1 to 3 days a month
