Job Description

The Associate Principal Scientist will partner with our cross-functional R&D, quality and consumer relations teams to provide analytical and technical insights across PepsiCo’s portfolio of Grains, Fruits, Vegetables, Sports Nutrition products inclusive of ingredients. This role is responsible to lead the core and forensics analytical teams at our Barrington R&D facility to deliver quality and actionable insights across our Stakeholders. You will also take the lead on development of new methods and technologies on emerging areas of interest and will be responsible for the development/coaching of our chemists and technicians.

Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate as full team member in Analytical Sciences Lab to support product/process development and quality initiatives
  • Partner with consumer relations, quality and other stakeholders to resolve product and consumer issues
  • Lead and guide core and forensics analytical teams
  • Major work will include review and implement analytical methods and technologies on emerging areas of interest
  • Provide technical expertise for cross functional R&D projects, routine testing, trouble-shooting, result validation and approval, instrument maintenance, and project management
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in HPLC, GC, wet chemistry and spectroscopy is required.
  • Coach and guide peers and technicians based on knowledge and experience
  • Proactively seek new, simple and rapid ways of conducting test procedures and practices that promotes lab performance and efficiencies
  • Maintains, tracks and improves existing systems and work processes to sustain Quality
  • Initiate and execute research experimental designs. Analyze, interpret data and present reports and findings
  • Identifies new technology opportunities using the standardized internal /external tools and process
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation; prepare accurate, impactful and actionable reports to internal corporate clients. Familiarity with LIMS is required
  • Support manager in deployment of department strategies
  • Follow all mandated safety and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) procedures

  • Ability to self-initiate, manage multiple projects / tasks independently to meet business objectives
  • Has basic knowledge/experience in digital data processing
  • Able to work in a team and work closely with the chemist / technician who is responsible for the assigned analytical techniques

Qualifications/Requirements

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Ph.D. or MS in Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry with 6+ years experience in an R&D analytical function in the consumer products industry (preferred)
  • Experienced with HPLC, GC, NIR, UV Spectrophotometer, Densitometer, Refractometer, Autotitrator and other analytical equipments is recommended
  • Capable of learning and applying various analytical techniques
  • Experienced with statistical tools
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated teamwork and supervisory experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
