Category Manager

The Role:
The Category Manager contributes to PepsiCo Beverages Canada’s success by applying foundational knowledge of category insights and best practices against retailer objectives, strategies and opportunities. This person will interpret business data to develop fact-based recommendations that support achievement of both the retailer and PBC sales and profit objectives. The Category Manager is responsible to provide on-going assessment and monitoring to determine the effectiveness of various business tactics. They will be asked to work closely with selected retailers to develop total category space and feature plans that drive both sales and profit.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Establish strong working relationship with customers to increase depth of understanding; leverage retailer data sources and direct wiring
  • Analyze business trends and provide input to inform the largest areas of opportunity toward an effective category sales and profit growth strategy through the retailer JBP/CDA process
  • Manage the measures and inputs for the category review process to provide recommendations that influence assortment, distribution, shelving and pricing decisions in order to create solutions to satisfy both PBC and account objectives
  • Support the activation of category plans through the assortment, plan-o-gram and feature planning process
  • Monitor progress towards achievement of retailer and PBC business objectives and effectives of tactics, recommend improvements where required
  • Develop fact based plans from analysis and prepare effective account presentations with recommendations
  • Leverage a solid understanding of the analytic process and all analytic tools to support the successful achievement of Category Management AOP objectives

Who’s a good fit for the team:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA degree preferred
  • 2+ years previous account management or field sales experience in consumer packaged goods; direct store delivery environment an asset
  • Category management, shelf management or business analysis experience in consumer products goods industry an asset;
  • Knowledge of consumer brand marketing;
  • Self-starter, able to work independently on projects
  • Solid leadership and interpersonal skills required
  • Strong analytical skills, able to synthesize information to develop understanding and insights
  • Strong communication and presentation skills required
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency: Microsoft Suite
  • Technical expertise with Nielsen Workstation Plus an asset
  • Technical expertise with space management software (e.g. Spaceman/ Apollo /ProSpace) an asset
  • Solid organizational and project management skills – able to establish priorities, strong detailed execution and ability to multi-task;
  • Possess a valid driver's license and own vehicle
  • Some business travel required
