Job Description

This role provides strategic direction and oversight for healthcare, wellbeing, and multiple other insurance programs (e.g., dental, vision, life, disability, etc.)., ensuring PepsiCo’s benefit plan designs are cost-effective for the organization and our employees. The role is accountable for ongoing cost containment strategies related to our benefit programs as well as lifestyle and disease management strategies designed to reduce the health risks of PepsiCo’s employees and dependents. These health risks include physical, emotional and social health risks that contribute to poor health and, without intervention, would result in an increasing burden on PepsiCo’s healthcare spend and a less productive workforce.

Major Tasks, Key Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and drive multi-year strategies to manage plan costs, improve the health of the population, provide competitive benefits and comply with health care regulation, in the U.S. and internationally
  • Deliver annual cost containment strategies to ensure health and wellbeing programs stay within PepsiCo’s budget and algorithm
  • Strategic oversight of U.S. group insurance plan expense, compliance and governance processes
  • Management of outside consultants, including the actuarial valuation process for self-insured health plans
  • Partner with consultants and vendors to monitor, scorecard and identify drivers of the medical trend to identify price, utilization, vendor, and care management opportunities
  • Managing multiple vendors, ensuring the right mix of innovation, creativity and quality to drive value for PepsiCo and our employees
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders (other Total Rewards teams, HR, HR Operations, Legal, Finance, multiple vendors, etc.) as appropriate
  • Partner with internal groups to integrate wellness agenda into related departments events/strategies (Diversity & Engagement, Global Nutrition, Learning & Development, Foundation
The role is accountable for ~$1BN in spending, which encompasses the following:
  • U.S. Healthcare with 16 different vendors encompassing both PepsiCo’s self-insured national plans and 18 fully-insured HMO plans
  • International healthcare & risk policies, including life, accident, and disability covering over 150 policies globally with a mix of reinsured policies managed through PepsiCo’s insurance captive and locally insured policies as well as our global travel risk policy and 2 expatriate medical plans
  • U.S. insurance programs including life, disability, vision and dental programs with 13 different vendors/programs
  • U.S. lifestyle and disease management programs including PepsiCo’s 48 on-site Employee Health & Wellness Centers, health & wellness technology platform, and 7 disease management programs/vendors providing coaching and support to PepsiCo members to reduce health risks and drive behavior (includes programs to address diabetes, obesity, smoking cessation, etc.)
The role is also accountable for Fitness Center Budget for NY locations; budget for on-site daycare center; and location-specific agenda for 400+ wellness champions.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of employee benefit programs
  • 10+ years experience in large employer benefits environment (consulting or employer roles)
  • Ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced environment
  • Strong strategic skills to develop and evolve 3 to 5-year strategies to ensure sustainable benefits programs and population health
  • Leadership and influence skills to gain alignment among senior leadership
  • Ability to represent PepsiCo externally across industry groups
